Ambabai Goddess Temple Nagpur Or Durga Mata Temple In Nagpur is known for its ancient and enriched history. It is being said that the origin of the idol dates back to the 1756 century when this magnificent idol was discovered. This was found when some of the farmers for Warora were proceedings of farming activities on land were going on.  An exact replica of the idol was installed in the temple in the year 2015, Chaitra shuddha Ashtami, Friday, all the rituals were followed during this occasion.

Devi Mata is the Kul devta of the Khot Family. Today the 13th generation of this family adorns the mata or goddess with the same dedication as it used to be done by their ancestors. The idol of goddess Gruhlaxami Ambabai is made of Swayambhu which means self-manifested and shaligram which refers to as Gandaki stone. This swayambhu avatar of the Devi has immense power and thus this shrine and been an extremely famous one. The glimpse of this avatar is a hard found opportunity, as this can be witnessed only on special occasions.

The goddess is always decorated with beautiful ancient and heritage ornaments which are made of pure gold and some other precious metals. The saree or vastar ( attire of gods) is beautifully draped around the goddess. The appearance of the idol is such an awestruck which fills one’s heart with utmost divinity, positivity, and contentment. Shivalinga is being manifested on the forehead of the deity. Shivalinga is three layers of horizontal which are in orange color made of ashtanga and at the center, there is a red dot which is of kumkum. The idol sits on a throne (snghasana) which is made up of pure silver and weighs near 85 kilograms. It has beautiful and Elegant carvings of the moon and sun which is on the right and the left shoulders of the goddess respectively. The deity is worshiped every day, with a proper ritual being followed.

In a year only for a day or two, the goddess is being taken to another place where she sleeps and takes rest. This is known as Nidra Kal. This is being performed with full enthusiasm and dances are being performed. The idol is taken in palki to the place where she takes rest. In worldwide, only in this temple, the procession is being carried out.  This goddess is also known as Maha Saraswati as it consists of eight arms donning various weapons mentioned in Hindu Mythologies which are Koshti, Deshastha, Brahmin, Teli, Koli, sonar, Kalar, etc. The Devi temple in Nagpur is believed in fulfilling the wishes and prayers of one and all .there is a proper schedule of Prayers or Aartis which are being offered from morning to evening. One should visit this God temple in Nagpur at least once in his/her lifetime.

Daily Schedule of The temple proceedings are

  • Charan Tirtha-Sacred water Ritual of the mouth and feet of the goddess
  • The Puja is performed at 5:30 Am.This Puja is administered by the head priest(Mahanta) of the shrine.During this,the Mahanta washes the mouth and the feet of the goddess with hot water while the devotees chant and sing the hyms(aarti).
  • After the Bath Kakad aarti is Performed
  • Maharti is performed at 9:30 am with silver pancharti.
  • After the above ritual,Maha Naivedyam is shown to the goddess after which Mukhdarsharshan for the devotees begin.
